Abstract

A liquid gas reservoir of the type having a relief valve with its outlet connected into a chimney leading away from the reservoir. Essentially, the base of the chimney is joined to the reservoir around a calibrated bursting disc, and the chimney has an internal, automatic ignition unit downstream from a non-return flame grille. Pref. the ignition unit is actuated when the relief valve lifts. Escaping gas is burned off until the reservoir is emptied and all danger of explosion has passed. The bursting disc may be selected to respond to abnormal temperature and/or pressure conditions in the reservoir ignition may be electric or catalytic.
