Abstract

An unsatd. epoxyester resin compsn. which may be hardened at room temp. with the aid of an org. peroxide an accelerator, and combines the desirable characteristics of epoxy resins with those of unsatd. polyester resins, is produced by reacting an epoxy cpd. having at least one glycidylether-type epoxy gp. in the molecule, with a polymerisable unsatd. 2-8C monobasic acid (e.g. (meth)acrylic acid), as first acid component, and an (un)satd. mono or polybasic acid or anhydride, (e.g. phthalic or maleic anhydride) as second acid component, in presence of a polymn. inhibitor (e.g. hydroquinone) and an esterification catalyst, in air or molecular oxygen, with application of heat. A solvent or a comonomer (e.g. styrene) may be present. Used in mfr. of adhesives, coatings, mouldings.
