Abstract

Appts. consists of a series of very thick metal tubes (15-25 mm) with external dia. about 150-200 mm disposed concentrically around the stack at a distance of, e.g. 500-800 mm from each other. Water circulates through these tubes at high speed. The tubes pref. consists of an inner tube placed concentrically inside the thick walled outer one so that the water circulates at high speed in the space between them. A chamber welded onto the tube prevents ingress of hot blast furnace gas and leakage of water is unlikely because of the thickness of the tubes. In the case of accidental pump breakdown, water circulation is maintained by a thermic siphon.
