Abstract

Alpha-ureido-(2,4,6-cycloheptatrienyl)-methylcephalosporin - prepn. and pharmaceutical use. Title cpds. (I): (in which R-R3 are mostly H or Me) and its salts formed with bases at the COOH gp. or with acids at the amino gp., are broad spectrum antibiotics esp. active against resistant Pseudomonas type organisms. Prepn. is by condensation of active forms of alpha-ureido or alpha-amino-(2,4,6-cycloheptatrienyl)-acetic (II) or (III) with a 7-aminocephalosporanic acid cpd. (IV). The alpha-amino cpd. is convertible to the alpha-ureido cpd. by reaction with an org. isocyanate or a dialkylcarbamoyl halide. In the prepn. from (III) the NH2 gp. must be protected with known protective gps. which can subsequently by removed. (II) is part. A-OH; (IV) is H- part B; (III) has the CO.NR11R3 replaced by H.
