Abstract

Fires caused by the burning of light metals such as Al, Mg and their alloys are extinguished by application of a liquid compsn. comprising a mixt. of a bromofluoroalkane boiling 100 degrees C and an aromatic ester of phosphoric acid. Prefd. mixt is that of dibromo-1,2-tetrafluoro-1,1,2,2-ethane and TCP in a weight ratio of 1:2 to 2:1, pref. 1:1. This liquid compsn. is very efficient at rapidly extinguishing fires by burning light metals.
