Abstract

Waste products contg. organic ingredients from garden or kitchen waste or from communal waste such as refuse or refuse-clarification sludge mixture are subjected to a biological self-heating and/or incubation in the presence of moisture while maintaining an oxygen content of is not 10% and a temp. of is not 65 degrees C until analysis of samples shows that protein content is maximal and ammonia and/or nitrate ontent is minimal and bacterium coil is no longer present. The fermentation is pref. carried out in such a way that air is passed through the waste material as a series of pulses separated by pauses the duration of which is so adjusted that the required conditions are maintained. The compost obtd. is provided to young piglets and has a health-promoting effect so that administration of antibiotics and iron preparations usual in intensive rearing can be omitted.
