Abstract

Mould for casting metal melts, particularly U or its alloys, without contaminating metal with hydraulic binders, is produced by spray-coating a fixed pattern coated with de-moulding agent (e.g. a silicone resin) with a thin layer of a mixture of (i) polymerisable resin, pref. nitrocellulose dissolved in a solvent consisting of a synthetic glycerophtalic varnish-alkylated cpd. mixture and (ii) a fine aggregate of refractory oxide, pref. ZrO2, Ca zirconate, fused SiO2 or corundum of 200 mu grain size, curing in ambient air, coating with a thick layer of adherent material, pref. a refractory concrete, and baking assembly. Pref. the thin layer is coated with an intermediary layer of 1-2 mm grains before coating with the thick layer.
