Abstract

The extractor is of the type with an internal clamp with jaws separated by a wedge. The extractor is powered by a piston. The jaws are articulated onto a pair of levers which are themselves articulated onto the piston and engaged in a split in the command rod. The wedge is carried on the end of the rod and in the rest position, the jaws are separated by its point only, but when the extractor is in operation the wedge advances to separate the jaws by it thick end and apply them to the tube. The wedge is articulated so that it can oscillate slightly to apply either jaw to the tube when there is an irregularity in the tube or the extractor does not lie exactly along the axis. The jaws are held in place by a retaining ring.
