Abstract

During the prepn. of Ag halide emulsions (contng. 50 mole % Br, 10 mole % I and 40 mole % Cl), esp. before the conversion of the Ag halide grains, up to 6-10-8 moles of an Hg compd. are added per gram-atom Ag. Hg compds. are e.g. salts, organo-Hg compds. or mixtures of salts with organic N-bases, esp. merainc iodide (1 mole) and 2-amino-5-iodopyridine iodohydrate (2 mole). The Ag halide grains are chemically sensitised, e.g. by reduction or with mole metals or Slcontng. compds. Used for controlling fog formation in converted Ag halide emulsions.
