Abstract

Fabrication of surface coverings with an artificial granite surface, in which thermoplastic chips, which may be filled or coloured, are applied to an adhesive coated surface moving up an inclined plane, the product then being heat-treated and compressed. The layer is pref. passed through a heating tunnel and then between compression cylinders, followed by cooling cylinders. The support may be felt, woven or non-woven fabric, and may be coated by transferring adhesive from a tank by means of a rotating cylinder and applying a doctor blade and a pressure roll. The chips may be of PVC or other thermoplastics. The process gives a realistic granite finish superior to that obtd. by using pastes and is simpler to apply.
