Abstract
Aqs. acetic acid solns. are concentrated by extracting the acetic acid from the soln. with methyl n-propyl ketone, methyl isopropyl ketone and/or diethyl ketone, removing water and the solvent from the extract by azeotropic distillation, and separating the concentrated acetic acid. The solvents enable the acetic acid to be extracted efficiently. The acetic acid is extracted more economically than by the use of distillation.
