Abstract
Silicate foams for fire-proof, heat-resisting heat- and sound insulator building materials are prepd. by (a) hydrating finely divided alkali metal silicate containing 5% water to material with 5-30% water content, pref. using water (vapours) or steam at 20-350 (30-150) degrees C., and (b) foaming by supplying heat, pref, by quick evaporation of water content through heat energy supply pref. from conventional heat sources, microwaves or through energy consumption of mechanical energy. Pref. foam is insolubilised by adding a complex-forming agent to hydrated silicate material. Alkali metal (Na, K or li) silicate is anhydrous solid with 5-250 (5-40) mu particle size, and pref. consists of Na silicate with SiO2 ; Na2O ratio 1 to 6 : 1.
