Abstract

The article is placed in a tunnel in which it is precooled and then in the same tunnell brought into contact with a cryogenic liquid so that its vapours cool the article, the flash being then removed by applying suitable moving tools. The process is suitable for tyres and during the cooling stage they may be rotated on their axes and brought into contact with fixed tools for deflashing. The tools used may be fixed or rotating brushes and the cooling is pref. by a liquified gas. Articles of rubber, and other flexible plastics such as polyamides and plasticised PVC which are rendered brittle by cooling may be treated. A rapid, automatic and reliable deflashing process is provided.
