Abstract

To remove flash from an article of rubber or rubber-like material, the article is chilled by bringing it into contact with a liquified atmospheric gas having a boiling point at atmospheric pressure below -100 DEG C. or a gas at a temperature below -100 DEG C. obtained from a liquefied atmospheric gas, and thereafter is subjected to a mechanical operation for the removal. of the flash while in a rigid condition induced by the chilling. The mechanical flash-removing operation may be performed by a tool or punch. Liquid oxygen, nitrogen, air or argon or mixtures of liquid argon and liquid nitrogen may be used according to the nature of the article, which may be of natural rubber, mixes based on natural rubber (with plasticisers, fillers, colouring materials or other additions), polyvinyl chloride, polychloroprene or other elastomers made of synthetic resinous materials or mixtures of one or more of such material with natural rubber.
