Abstract

Articles of jewellery are made from compsns. comprising (a) 10-90 vol. % alumina, zirconia, magnesium aluminate or mixture, (b) 10-90 % Ti, Zr, Nb, Hf, Ta, W, Mo carbide or mixture (c) 0-10% Cr, Mo, W, Fe, Co, Ni, Ti, Zr, Nb, Ta, Hf metal or mixture, and (d) 0-10% silica, titania, magnesia or rare earth oxides. The composition is hard, resistant to acid corrosion e.g. as from perspiration, and can be polished to give an aesthetically pleasant visual appearance. Used alone or with other conventional material, it forms a wide range of articles of jewellery.
