Abstract

Machine is for the grading and prepn. of mushrooms or similar products, prior to their sale in the fresh state or preservation. The grading and screening portion of the machine consists of a descending inclined plane made from several pairs of tubular elements, the elements of each pair define between them an increasing space from the top to the bottom of the plane. The elements of each pair rotate in opposite directions at the same speed and exert a lifting action on the mushrooms engaged in the interstice. The mushrooms descend along the tubes until the width of the interstice becomes sufficient to llow the cap to pass into one of the hoppers which extend transversely to the direction of the tubes. A transfer device under each hopper brings the mushrooms to the two endless bands of the trimming machine; the stalks fall into the gap between the two and are carried under foam rollers which hold them in position when they reach the cutting blades. The latter cut the stalks and trim them to the desired length.
