1483336 Topping and tailing vegetables PAUL HOSKIN Ltd 13 Aug 1974 [23 Aug 1973] 40015/73 Heading A4C Apparatus for topping and tailing root vegetables comprises a pair of adjacent parallel rollers 1 rotatable in the same direction and fed from a chute 6, the vegetables when between the rollers being oriented with their ends aligned with the rollers and then moved by fingers 5 of a conveyer 2 transversely of the rollers between topping and tailing blades 8 and thence to an output chute 7. The blades are mounted on the ends of rods 9 together with guides 12, the rods being biased by springs 11 towards one another but movable apart to accommodate vegetables of different sizes. For onions a skin slitting knife may be mounted above the rollers in front of blades 8 or a freely rotatable circular knife mounted on each finger 5. A single blade may be proyided when only topping or tailing is required.
