Abstract

The title cpds. are of the formula:- where on X = an NH2-gp. and the other X = an OH gp; Y = H or OH and n = 1-2. They are prepared by oxidative treatment with copper of the cpds. where both Y's are H or both are OH gps; n = 1-2 and each of the 2 naphthalene rings exhibit the same no. of sulphonic acid gps. in the same posns. and the azo gp. joins the 1,1' or the 2,2' posns. The resulting cpd. is reductively cleaved. Advantage lies in doubling of previous yields and high purity of product.
