Abstract

Coating the contact surfaces of temporary fastenings such as nuts and bolts or screw flights with a fluorocarbon (or polyimide) resin provides a seal against chemical, oxidative or electro-chemical attack and a self-lubricating surface to facilitate subsequent loosening of the fastener. This inhibits blocking or coupling of mating surfaces (esp. of ferrous components) by (bulky) oxide deposits etc. Coating are pref. of PTFE, PVF, polyfluoroethylene propylene or polyimide resin, applied as even coating by wet or electrostatic spraying or wet or fluidised bed dipping.
