Abstract

Cyclic imido-ethers useful as solvents and intermediates. Title cpds. of formula (I) : (where each r (same or different) is H or a (cyclo)aliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic residue, or two R's together can represent members of a carbocyclic nucleus, and n is 2,3 or 4) which are useful as solvents and as intermediates for vulcanisation accelerators, stabilisers, antistatics, textile auxiliaries and pesticides are prepd. by cyclising HO-(CRR)n-NH-CHO at elevated temp. in the presence of silica gel or solid silicates having a preponderance of pores of radius 10-200 angstroms, a mean pore radius of 20-100 angstroms and a specific surface of is not 550 m2/g; the process gives good yields and catalyst life is good. Products in which each R is H or 1-6C alkyl or alkenyl and n is 2,3 or 4, with the exception of that cpd. in which n is 2 and all R's are H, are claimed per se.
