Abstract

A magnetic field is produced which consists of a steady field and an alternating field in the same direction. The magnetometer measures fields in the plane perpendicular to this field. A cell contng. mercury 199 is submitted to the fields and is lit by circularly polarised light produced by mercury 204 in the direction of the field and by linearly polarised light from mercury 202. A measuring system establishes the degree of rotation of polarisation of this second beabeam after passing through the cell.
