Abstract

Al bands or sheets, esp. for coil windings e.g. for transformers, are rounded off electrochemically (to facilitate insulation) using an electrolyte composed of:- Ca 20-50 g/l. alkaline nitrate or pref. NH4NO3; 5-50g/l. complexing agent of the amino-acetic acid and hexose derivative group, esp. glycine, EDTA- salts or sodium gluconate; 5-50 g/l inhibitor, e.g. dextrin, urotropine, gun arabic, gelatine, agar - agar etc., and water; pH 4, pref. 3. There is an external source of continuous current, 0.1-10A/cm edge. The cathode pref. surrounds the edge, the anode and cathode are only a few mm. apart. Treatment last 1-30 secs.
