Abstract

Coating glass with fluorocarbons Resin such as PTFE, polyfluorochloroethylene, or a copolymer of ethylene and propylene fluorides, is applied. The glass substrate is degreased, then sandblasted or micro-sandblasted by abrasives, e.g. corundum, to roughen it. It is immersed in an aqs. dispersion of the finely-divided resin, in appropriate concentration, at ambient temp. The coated glass is placed in a temp. chamber and slowly brought from dipping temp. to 380 degrees, held there, then slowly cooled to ambient temp. The microparticles of resin pref. PTFE, soften sufficiently to hook on and weld to the asperities of the roughened glass.
