Abstract

A metal chute for delivering molten glass is surfaced with a polyfluorocarbon (pref. PTFE) in which is uniformly distributed 15-60 (pref. 27-43) wt.% finely divided boron nitride. The coating may be applied in two layers first a layer of PTFE (0.1 - 1.0 mil thick) and secondly a layer of PTFE containing boron nitride (1.0-3 mils thick). Boron nitride particles are pref. smaller than 44 mu. Surface has very low coefficient of friction and is high temperature resistant. No contaminants are passed to the glass, and cooling is minimal.
