Abstract

A thin film of an aqueous colloidal dispersion of a copolymer formed by copolymerising a 2-10C alpha-olefin and a 3-8C alpha-beta unsaturated acid, pref. 75-90% wt. of the olefin e.g. ethylene and 10-25% wt. of the acid e.g. acrylic, and a polyvalent metal salt of groups (II, III, IV and VIII) soluble in water e.g. a Zn ++ salt such as Zn CO3, is applied to the article, the article is heated to remove wter from the film and irradiated using high energy ionising radiation e.g. of 1 to 10 megarads.
