Abstract

Aqueous solutions which also contain a thickening agent can be used. The latter can be fine kaolins, of which at least 80 wt. % of the particles is smaller than 0.6 micron. Advantageous over borates and boracic acid already used, but abandoned because of their sterilizing effect on the soil. Ammonium orthophosphates and sulphate have the additional advantage of acting as artificial fertilizers for the soil as well as possessing good fire extinguishing properties. Use relates in particular to fire fighting in forest and bush country.
