Abstract
Aggregate particles consisting of molten chrome-periclase and having a grain size of from 4.76 to 0.37 mm are mixed with matrix particles of melted or sintered periclase containing at least 90% MgO and having a grain size below 0.177 mm. The mixture is shaped into bricks which are then fired at a temp. of approx. 1538 degrees C. Advantage is high resistance to thermal shock due to the heterogeneous microstructure capable of better absorption of the differences in expansion causing cracking. Use relates in particular to chrome-periclase based refractory bricks.
