Abstract
Residual high sulphur containing oils, obtained by distillation under atmospheric pressure of crude oils, are separated into asphaltic and non-asphaltic oils, the non-asphatib oil separated from resins and then catalytically dehydrosulphurised. Resins are again removed in order to obtain dehydrosulphurised oil which is again mixed with the resins. Preferably the residual high S-containing oil is separated by distillation at a press. less than 1 atm. from a second residual high S or it may be separated by precipitating the asphalts with the aid of one or more 5-10C aliphatic hydrocarbons, e.g. n-pentane and then separating asphalts from the non-asphaltic oil.
