Abstract
Silver halide gelating layer is hardened with formaldehyde and protective gelatin layer with mucochloric acid. If both layers are hardened with mucochloric acid sensitivity of material is reduced. Optimal amount of mucochloric acid is 1-1.5 weight % of gelatin. Conventional glazing process is contacting wet printing paper, both layers of which have been hardened with formaldehyde, with smooth glass or metal surface, and drying by heat or air. Regions which are not in close contact may show insufficiently glazed portions. Comparsion of paper with formaldehyde-hardened protective layer and paper with mucochloric acid-hardened layer showed the former to have more than 500 spot marks per 0.09 M2, the latter less than 25, when glazed under the same conditions.
