Abstract

The infra-red telescope is used for following the trajectory of a missile, e.g. by means of the heat provided by the latter. It comprises a lens system defining an optical axis and means detecting infra-red energy, spaced from the lens system along this axis, with two lenses etc. (13, 14) for focussing the infra red rays passing along the axis from the lens system onto the infra-red detector (33). Drive means are used to rotate the focussing means (13, 14) for the infra-red rays, so as to provide a rotating infrared beam (6) which traces a circular image on the infrared detector (33) with further means for controlling the angular position of one of the focussing means (13, 14), so as to modify the rays of the circular image.
