Abstract

Composite propellant charges are prepared from combustion supporters (comburants) stable at normal temp. absorbed on finely powdered solids, such as active C, polyacetylene or high polymers, which do not react at normal temp. with the liq. The comburants are pref. tetranitromethane, methyl nitrate or a mixture of methyl and ethyl nitrates. To adjust the O2 balance in the propellants, solid numerical comburants, such as NH4ClO4,KCl O4, or NH4NO3 are added. The mixt. is formed into a solid using a binder pref. polysiloxane, organic nitro cpds. able to gel, epoxide resins, polyurethanes, polycarbonates or chloroprene polymers, under pressure. The solid is protected with a coating of a metal film applied by galvanic or vacuum metal deposition or by spraying a pigmented resin solution.
