Abstract

Explosive compsns. comprising pentrite, hexogen or octogen and a thermosetting resin binder, are produced by (a) the liq. phase prepn. of granules of the explosive coated by the resin, using an org. soln. of the resin, (b) drying the obtd. granules, (c) adding a crosslinking catalyst, (d) cold compressing the dry granules and (e) heating to crosslink the binder. The process obviates the mixing and casting steps of prior art, e.g. US 3554820, in which compsns. contg. >85% explosives cannot be safely prepd. The granules or powder obtd. are easily degassed for moulding and can be stored during extended periods without losing their moulding or crosslinking ability. The compsn. can contain 30-98% explosives.
