Abstract
Reaction generators comprise two vessels of 75l. capacity each mounted in a frame and tiltable about an appox. central horizontal axis. Process is designed to generate 6, 9 or 12 m3 H2 by introducing set quantities of alkalis, ferrosilicon and water. One or both vessels is used depending on the vol. of H2 required, with an autogenous pressure of 130-150 bar (one vessel, 6m3), 80-100 bar (two vessels, 9m3) and 130-150 bar (two vessels, 12m3). For each 3m3 produced, reactants required are 2.7 kg NaOH flake mixed with 0.85 kg KOH flake, 305g powdered ferrosilicon primer, and 4575 kg ferrosilicon grains as main charge, with 30 l. H2O. Solid reactants have a purity >=98%. The process is simple and economical for the on-site prodn. of H2 for welding, hydrogenation reactions, meterology.
