Abstract

Nuclear fuel elements are composed of an agglomerate of nuclear fuel particles which each have a coating containing fission products and which are bonded together by means of a synthetic resin. Different processes can be used. (A) The coated nuclear fuel particles are tumbled with a mixture of graphite powder and a carbonisable heat-hardening resin. The particles, on which there is a layer of the resin mixture, are put into a pipe, and pressure is applied by menas of a plunger. Heat is applied, starting at the end remote fromt he plunger, to harden the resin; the resin is then carbonised.
