Abstract

1,197,932. Air cushion vehicles. J. BEAUDEQUIN. 5 Sept., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 40473/67. Heading B7K. An air cushion craft comprises a principal structure formed by inflatable sidewalls 2, 3 connected by transverse inflatable members 4 to which are attached rails 15 to support a fabric-floor panel 1 and a water jet propulsion unit 12, 13 and a lift fan that delivers air through an aperture 10 to the cushion compartment or plenum chamber. The plenum chamber is enclosed at the front by a flexible skirt of individual contiguous U-section panels 6 and the rear by a skirt formed by two panels 7 and 8 spaced apart by a transverse gap 7a for the discharge of air. An inflatable skirt 5 is attached to the underside of each sidewall 2, 3, the degree of inflation depending on the type of surface over which the craft is operating.
