Abstract

The invention concerns a method and an apparatus for measuring of the fibre orientation or the moisture content in a material which consists predominantly of wood fibres. In a resonator, the wavelength of a RF wave is employed such that the distance between antenna 302 and reflector 326 has the length of at least half the wavelength of the RF wave and the maximum point of the resonating standing RF wave 402 is situated at the material 324 being measured. The RF radiation 402 sent out during the measurement is polarised with complete linearity in the various directions during the different measurement processes. The resonance of the RF radiation 402 is measured and the fibre orientation in the material being measured is established by means of the measured resonances. To measure the moisture content, two such wavelengths of RF waves are used in the resonator, so that the maximum point of the first resonating standing RF wave 402 is situated at the material being measured and the minimum point of the second resonating RF radiation 404 is situated at the material 324 being measured. The two measurement results thus obtained from the resonances of the RF radiation are compared with each other and the moisture content in the material being measured 324 is established on the basis of the difference between the measurement results. <IMAGE>
