Abstract
For application of a firmly adherent, resistant metallic or ceramic coating to articles comprising reinforcing fibres and a synthetic resin matrix by a thermal spraying process, a material in particulate form which is capable of chemically binding with the material serving as thermal coating material is introduced into that surface of the fibre-reinforced synthetic resin article which faces the thermal spray layer applied later. Before the thermal spraying, the surface of the articles to be coated is machined so that exposed, clean surfaces of the included particles which promote adhesion of the layers are formed.
