Abstract

The present invention relates to an equipment and a method for the continuous cultivation of plants in numerous elongated cultivation troughs (3, 3A) which are conveyed substantially laterally during said cultivation. Said troughs (3, 3A) are positioned in a sequential and parallel order on a frame (1) and also transverse to the main travel direction of said troughs. Said equipment comprises a transfer apparatus (5) movable above said cultivation frame (1) said apparatus having parallel and sequential engaging means (6, 6A to 6N) which may be made to engage selected cultivation troughs (3, 3A) on said frame (1) for transferring and/or spacing said troughs. Said cultivation frame (1) comprises at least two tracks (2, 2A) or track portions distinguished from each other, the breadth of said tracks corresponding substantially to the longitudinal extension of said cultivation troughs (3, 3A), and at least one transfer apparatus (5) is adapted for operating alternately above said tracks (2, 2A) and for transferring troughs (3, 3A) in turn on each track (2, 2A) and/or from one track (2) to the other (2A). The troughs (3, 3A) on said tracks (2, 2A) are transferred and/or their mutual distance is increased by bringing selected engaging means (6, 6A to 6N) of said transfer apparatus (5) into engagement with troughs (3, 3A) residing on each alternate track (2, 2A).
