Abstract

In an NH3 reactor, especially with at least two heat exchangers concentrically arranged axially one after the other and catalysts beds surrounding these heat exchangers, it is intended by comparatively simple constructional means to provide optimum preheating and flow within the vessel for the circulating gas and/or process gas, while maintaining perfect cooling of the vessel wall, it being possible for the vessel in particular to have more than two catalyst beds. For this purpose, the inlet header (16) of the second heat exchanger (8) is fitted with a feed line (17), introduced radially from the side and/or from below, for at least a part of the circulating gas fed in the upper zone of the pressure vessel (2) and sweeping over the shell. <IMAGE>
