Abstract
A ship tank system (1), with a first tank, preferably a first fuel tank (2), that receives a liquid, ignitable fuel or alternatively water, with a second fuel tank (7) that receives a gaseous, nonignitable fuel, wherein the second fuel tank (7) is interconnected or integrated into the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank (2), in such a way that the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank (2), envelops at least sections of the second fuel tank (7) on the outside.
Description
Ship Tank System
The invention relates to a ship tank system.
The use of dual-fuel motors on ships is known in practice. In dual-fuel motors, a liquid, ignitable fuel, for example diesel, can be used in a first operating mode, and a gaseous, non-ignitable fuel, for example natural gas, can be used in a second operating mode. In the second operating mode of the dual-fuel motor, a lean, non-ignitable gas-air mixture is usually introduced into the cylinders of the motor, and ignited by the ignition energy of an ignitable, liquid ignition fluid that was also introduced into the cylinders.
The liquid, ignitable fuel for the first operating mode is held in a first fuel tank. The gaseous, non-ignitable fuel is held in a second fuel tank, preferably in liquefied form. The different fuel tanks require a lot of installation space. This is disadvantageous, since the installation space available on ships is very limited.
Proceeding from the above, the object of the present invention is to create a new type of ship tank system. This object is achieved by a ship tank system according to claim 1. According to the invention, the second fuel tank is interconnected or integrated into the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank, in such a way that the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank, envelops at least sections of the second fuel tank on the outside.
20186092 prh 17-12-2018
Integrating or nesting the two tanks significantly reduces the installation space required by the ship tank system. Optimal use can then be made of the installation space available on a ship.
In a further development of the invention, the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank, defines a tank interior for receiving the liquid fuel or water, wherein at least sections of the second fuel tank are arranged inside of the tank interior of the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank, and enveloped by liquid fuel or water. This also serves to make optimal use of the installation space available on a ship.
In a further development of the invention, the second fuel tank has a cylindrical base body with arched end sections, wherein an arched end section of the second fuel tank protrudes out of the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank, preferably on a wall of a cuboid base body of the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank. Gaseous fuel can simply be fed to the second fuel tank or removed from the latter via the end section of the second fuel tank protruding from the first container, in particular the first fuel tank.
In a further development of the invention, an outer wall of the second fuel tank is tightly connected, in particular welded, with the wall of the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank, on which the second fuel tank protrudes out of the first tank, preferably the first fuel tank. In particular, this prevents liquid fuel held by the first fuel tank from uncontrollably escaping via a parting line between the two tanks.
In a further development of the invention, the second fuel tank holds the gaseous fuel in liquefied form. This is preferred so as to receive as much gaseous fuel as possible in the second fuel tank given the smallest possible fuel tank interior of the latter.
Preferred further developments of the invention may be gleaned from the subclaims and following description. Exemplary embodiments of the invention will be explained in greater detail based on the drawing, without being limited thereto. Shown on:
20186092 prh 17-12-2018
Fig. 1: is a cross section through a ship tank system according to the invention.
Fig. 1 presents a highly schematic depiction of a ship tank system 1 that is configured as a ship fuel tank system. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the ship tank system 1 has a first fuel tank 2, which provides a fuel tank interior 20 which holds liquid, ignitable fuel, e.g., diesel or heavy fuel or residual oil. The first fuel tank 2 typically has a cuboid geometry bounded by walls. Fig. 1 depicts four walls 3, 4, 5 and 6 of this cuboid first fuel tank 2.
The ship fuel system [sic] 1 further has a second fuel tank 7, which holds a gaseous, nonignitable fuel, in particular natural gas, specifically in a fuel tank interior 21 of the second fuel tank 7. The second fuel tank 7 preferably holds the gaseous, non-ignitable fuel in liquefied form at a low temperature.
Within the meaning of the present invention, the second fuel tank 7 is nestled or integrated into the first fuel tank 2, specifically in such a way that the first fuel tank 2 outwardly envelops at least sections of the second fuel tank 7.
As already explained, the first fuel tank 2 defines the fuel tank interior 20 for receiving the liquid, ignitable fuel. At least sections of the second fuel tank 7 that provides the fuel tank interior 21 for receiving the liquefied, gaseous non-ignitable fuel are arranged inside of the fuel tank interior 20 of the first fuel tank 2, and at least sections thereof are enveloped by the liquid, ignitable fuel. Fig. 1 presents a schematic view of a fill level for the liquid, ignitable fuel in the fuel tank interior 20 of the first fuel tank 2.
The second fuel tank 7 has a cylindrical base body 8 with arched end sections 9 and 10. The arched end sections 9 and 10 can be designed as a so-called dished bottom or as a so-called 3centered arc bottom. Fig. 1 presents a schematic view of a fill level for the liquefied, gaseous non-ignitable fuel in the fuel tank interior 21 of the second fuel tank 7.
20186092 prh 17-12-2018
In the preferred exemplary embodiment on Fig. 1, an arched end section 9 of the second fuel tank 7 used to receive the gaseous non-ignitable fuel in liquefied form protrudes out of the fuel tank interior 20 of the first fuel tank 2 at a wall 6 of the cuboid, first fuel tank 2. This wall 6 is adjoined by a so-called connection space 19, in which fuel lines 14,15,16 that interact either with the first fuel tank 2 or second fuel tank 7 are handled and connected to other assemblies of a fuel supply system of the ship.
As may be gleaned from Fig. 1, two fuel lines 14,15 empty into the fuel tank interior 21 of the second fuel tank 7, specifically a fuel feed line 14 and a fuel discharge line 15. Fig. 1 further shows a fuel line 16, through which liquid fuel can be removed from the first fuel tank 2.
In the preferred exemplary embodiment shown, the second fuel tank 7 is designed as a doublewalled, vacuum-insulated fuel tank, which has an inner wall 11 bordering the fuel tank interior 21 of the latter, and an outer wall 12 enveloping the inner wall 11.
In the place where it penetrates through the wall 6 of the first fuel tank 2, the outer wall 12 of the second fuel tank 7 is tightly connected with this wall 6 of the first fuel tank 2, in particular through welding, wherein Fig. 1 shows a corresponding weld seam 13 between the outer wall 12 of the second fuel tank 7 and the wall 6 of the first fuel tank 2, which is penetrated by the end section 9 of the second fuel tank 7.
The second fuel tank 7 is mounted in the fuel tank interior 20 of the first fuel tank 2 via bearing feet 17, 18. A first bearing foot 17 comprises a fixed bearing, and a second bearing foot 18 comprises a floating bearing. As a result, the second fuel tank 7 is securely mounted in the fuel tank interior 20 of the first fuel tank 2.
Therefore, it lies within the meaning of the present invention to at least partially integrate a fuel tank 7 used to receive a gaseous, non-ignitable fuel into a fuel tank 2 used to receive a fluid, ignitable fuel, or to nestle the two fuel tanks 2, 7 with each other.
The fuel tank 2 used to receive the fluid, ignitable fuel here outwardly envelops the fuel tank 7 used to receive the non-ignitable, gaseous fluid in preferably liquefied form, at least in sections.
Integrating or nestling the fuel tanks 2, 7 in this way makes it possible to optimally utilize the installation space available on a ship. Especially preferred is the variant shown on Fig. 1, in which one end section 9 of the fuel tank 7 used to receive the gaseous, non-ignitable fuel in liquefied form protrudes out of the fuel tank 2 used to receive the liquid fuel, specifically an arched end section 9 thereof, which is tightly connected with the wall 6 of the fuel tank 2 via welding, specifically with the wall 6 of the fuel tank 2 through which the arched section 9 of the fuel tank 7 extends.
Even though the tank 2 depicted in the exemplary embodiment is the first fuel tank, let it be noted that the first tank 2 can also receive water. The first container 2 is then not a fuel tank, but rather a water tank.
