EL MATERIAL PRECURSOR ES UN COMPUESTO DE ESTAÑO VOLATIL FINAMENTE DIVIDIDO, SUSPENDIDO EN UN GAS PROTADOR COMO CLORO SOLIDO Y DOTADO CON FLUOR Y DE FORMULA (Y2 SN HA16)N. SIENDO: Y, UN CATION QUE NO LIBERA UN RESIDUO SOLIDO CUANDO EL HEXAHALOESTANNATO DESCOMPONE SOBRE EL VIDRIO CALIENTE; HA1, HALOGENO MEZCLA DE FLUOR Y CLORO; Y N, VALENCIA DEL CATION.
