Abstract

A method for forming glass articles such as bottles and the like which uses flows of cold pressurised cooling steam which are introduced into the mould cavities used to mould the glass articles. The cold cooling steam accelerates cooling and solidification of the articles in such a way that the time for which the articles have to be retained in the moulds is significantly reduced. The reductions in mould retention times make it possible to work at increased speeds, as a result of which productivity increases significantly. Increases in productivity of 15% and sometimes more can be achieved at relatively low cost. Use of the introduction of cold cooling steam into the mould cavities is applicable to a variety of glass moulding techniques including pressure moulding and blow moulding.
