Abstract

In the standardised colour television systems, a nonlinear distortion is produced with the conversion of the colour values into the colour signal values at the image pick-up side. In conjunction with the non linear distortion in reproduction, the conversion of the red, green and blue colour value signals into a luminance signal and two chrominance signal components and the subsequent low-pass filtering of the chrominance signal components at the "pre-equalised" signal level, have the consequence that, apart from the intended reduction in chrominance resolution, an unintended falsification of the luminance occurs. The luminance defects can be compensated for by correction signals according to the invention which are transmitted, for example, in the luminance channel.
