Abstract
Processing method for heavy crude oils contg. at least 7% of cpds. insol. inn-C5 hydrocarbons comprises: (i) atmospheric distn. (ii) extn. of the distn. residue (1 vol.) with aliphatic solvents (2-10 vols.) for removal of asphaltenes, C, S and metals at a column temp. of 50-250 deg. C (top) and 40-230 deg. C (bottom) and pressure 3-40 kg/sq. cm, giving an overhead stream (I) of API gravity 10-18 deg., SSF viscosity 100-3,500 at 50 deg. C, 1.0-75 wt.% n-C5-insols, 0.20-5.0 wt.% n-C7-insols., 4.0-12.0 wt.% Ramsbottom C, 2.0-5.0 wt.% S, and 75-250 ppm (V + Ni), and a residue (II) with properties also defined (iii) normal vacuum distn. of the extract (I), giving overhead a gas oil (III) of b. pt. 300-540 deg.C, and a residue (IV) (iv) catalytic cracking of (III) and (v) visbreaking of (IV).
