  • Treatment Of Water By Oxidation Or Reduction (AREA)

Abstract

The process is for the treatment of drinking water having a pH between 5 and 9. The equipment includes a tank 10 for receiving the water, this tank including a bed of activated carbon 16. The untreated water is aerated before coming into contact with the activated carbon. All the aerated water is allowed to flow through the bed and the activated carbon has a catalytic effect, as a result of which substantially all the oxidation occurs through the activated carbon bed and the use of chemical oxidising agents is avoided. The tank provides a reaction space for oxidation in the catalyst, the precipitation of oxidised ions, and the retention of precipitated particles by filtration.
