Abstract

For preparing a coating agent for paper and other cellulosic materials, consisting of pigments, dispersants and binders, it is proposed that the binder is prepared as a colloid by adding a mixture of phosphoric acid and an ammonium base to a starch, the 3 components being reacted in an autoclave at 160 to 220 DEG C for 180 to 240 minutes and then rapidly quenched to a temperature below 45 DEG C and converted into a colloid by dispersing, hydrating and drying at temperatures above 80 DEG C.
