Abstract

The mfr. of art paper using a pigment and a depolymerised starch involves the incorporation of a very fine pigment, of granule size 20 mu, consisting of CaSO4, 2H2O, into the depolymerised starch contg. phosphate gps., present in a concn. of 1-30%. A dispersant is opt. present in the starch. The mixt. is applied to >=1 surface of the paper, and subsequently dried. This results in a shiny finish for the treated surface and a good resistance to tearing in a moist medium, without needing to use synthetic binding agents. The treated paper can be used for printing. The coating mixt. is of low cost and good quality, and gives a surface finish with a good shine.
