Abstract

A fuel injection system with a conventional injection pump having a pump plunger with control edges running transversely and/or at an angle to the plunger axis for controlling the start and end of injection, and an injection valve supplied with fuel by this, which has a valve needle loaded by a compression spring in the closing direction, has a device assigned to it which is provided for the purpose of compensating for the internal and external influences impairing the operation of the internal combustion engine. This device operates as a function of those parameters affecting the operation of the engine and when required is capable of temporally influencing the pressure behaviour of a fuel injection quantity predetermined by the injection pump in the pipeline between injection pump and injection valve by delaying the start of injection.
