Abstract

Dissolution of magnesium-silicates in a mineral acid permits separation of interfering elements such as iron, aluminium, manganese, titanium, calcium and alkalinc metals by precipitation at controlled pH obtained using diferent alkaline solutions. Magnesium hydroxide precipitates at pH 11 to 12, at temps. between ambient and b.pt. Magnesium oxide is produced by heat treatment between 200 and 400 deg.C for 10 to 240 minutes.
