EL EXTRACTANTE ES UNA MEZCLA CON 1-10 PARTES EN VOLUMEN DE UN ACIDO ORGANIFOSFORICO QUE TIENE AL MENOS 6 ATOMOS DE CARBONO Y 1 PARTE EN VOLUMEN DE UN OXIDO DE FOSFINA TERCIARIA (C4-C20). EL DISOLVENTE DE EXTRACCION RESIDUAL CARGADO CON HIERRO (III) SE PONE EN CONTACTO CON UNA SOLUCION ACUOSA DE UN ACIDO SULFURICO PARA SEPARAR EL HIERRO (III) EN LA FASE ACUOSA. SE SEPARA LA FASE ACUOSA CONTENIENDO HIERRO (III) Y SE RECUPERA EL DISOLVENTE DE EXTRACCION SEPARADO PARA SU REUTILIZACION EN EL PROCESO DE EXTRACCION.
